Malaysia Evaluated RT-ECO to get Environmental POME

InfoSAWIT, KUALA LANGAT – The Government of Malaysia still evaluated the latest technology in RT-ECO, an innovative processing method in palm oil mill effluent (POME). This would be the way to increase sustainable palm oil production in the country.

Minister of Commodity and Plantation, Malaysia, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said that the technology would be very relevant to fulfill the demands globally because many insisted to realize environmental conservation. “In palm oil industries, the main issue is about environment. Many countries in the world carefully examine how we process liquid wastes before deciding to purchase our palm oil products or others that face the same challenge,” Johari said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from New Straits Times, Thursday (5/9/2024).

He also emphasized, before throwing away the waste, it would be significant to implement the innovative waste process to make sure that the water would not be polluted. This is also about to realize long term sustainable palm oil industries. “If the (liquid) waste pollutes the water, this would be a national scale – problem,” he said.

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) was assigned to asses the effectiveness of RT – ECO, namely to be implemented in small scale palm oil mills. “I instructed MPOB to evaluate the technology in a whole by focusing on its effectiveness and durability before implementing it in bigger scale, namely for the mills locally,” he said.

Malaysia, as the second biggest palm oil producer after Indonesia, exported about 15 million metric tons of CPO and its derivative every year. RT-ECO that Meru Jaya POME Solutions developed, applied electro-chemical method to process POME, made wastes safe and could be recycled in the factory, according to the sustainable standards in the globe.

In the visit, General Director of MPOB, Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir and Chairman of Meru Jaya POME Solutions Sdn Bhd, Tan Sri Dr SA Vigneswaran did attend. (T2)
