Palm Oil Gasoline - Unila 35 Was Successfully Tested to Motorcycle

InfoSAWIT, LAMPUNG – University of Lampung (Unila) successfully tested fuel from palm oil, Tuesday, 3 September 2024 on the yard of Chemical Hall, Unila. It was the collaboration between Tim Katalis Bertunas Unila, Majoring Chemicals Unila, and Agroinvestama Group.

In the research led by Prof. Wasinton Simanjuntak; Prof. Kamisah D. Pandiangan and five alumni of Faculty of Matematic, and Science Unila, they successfully got new innovation called “Bensin Sawit Unila (BSU) 35.”

“It is the progress to develop new renewable energy in palm oil – base, as the alternative from the fossil fuel that gets more limit,” Unila mentioned, as InfoSAWIT quoted, Wednesday (4/9/2024).

The main goal of the research would be about to develop katalis bertunas to get bio-hydrocarbon from palm oi and be used to get bio-gasoline, bio-aviation turbine, and biodiesel.

Palm oil process used katalis bertunas and be effectively proved to get bio-gasoline which was mixed with pertamax gasoline with the ratio, 35% BSU and 65% Pertamax. The test result showed the mixture used in the motorcycle delivered the good performance and it was environmental.

Director of Unila, Prof. Lusmeilia Afriani did welcome the positive result from the test and hoped to get further development. He also emphasized it would need support from Agroinvestama Group in the research and aspiration to expan BSU from Unila itself to the society in Lampung Province.

The initiative was from and encouraged by many palm oil plantations in the province and showed the big potential to support energy and environment sustainability in Indonesia. (T2)
