InfoSAWIT, AMBON – Province of Maluku with more than 1.340 islands and sea that covered up 93 percent of the total areas, are facing big challenges in its development namely in facing climate crisis. To deliver answers of the challenge, MADANI Berkelanjutan conducted Sekolah Pembangunan on 23 - 24 August 2024 in the City of Ambon. The goal was about to involve young generations in Maluku to understand and actively participate in the sustainable development.
Nadia Hadad, Executive Director of MADANI Berkelanjutan emphasized that it would be significant for the young generations to maintain the balance between development and environmental conservation. “Climate crisis would deliver impacts for the archipelago countries, such as, Indonesia, namely in the Province of Maluku for having many small islands. The increasing sea water surface would have something to do with the life, culture, and the people of Maluku that mostly live around the shores. If the explosive development is not changed, there would be worse impacts in the future. That is why the young generations would play the significant roles to confirm that the development would not be damaging the environment but create climate fairness,” Nadia said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Thursday (29/8/2024).
MADANI Berkelanjutan, through Sekolah Pembangunan would reinforce the initiatives among the stakeholders to solve the climate crisis (issues).
Resni Soviyana, Lead Program Green Development MADANI Berkelanjutan mentioned that the program would develop collaboration among the young generations, the governments, and other stakeholders. “Sekolah Pembangunan would be the place for the young generations of Maluku to be more critical and careful about environmental conservation, and would be the agent of change,” Resni said.
Resni hoped that Sekolah Pembangunan would be committed and in spirit to always follow every program that would be running in a whole year both online and offline. The program would present speakers from many elements, such as, academy, pratitioners, and the representatives from the governments.
The event was joined by 17 participants from many regions in the Province of Maluku and inaugurated by Dr. Anton A. Lailossa, S.T., M.Si, Head of Regional Development Plan Agency, Province of Maluku. In his keynote speech, Dr. Anton emphasized it would be significant to get and realize sustainable development and the public should get participation in the process.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Kastanya, M.S., the Professor of Forest Resource Economy and Plan of University of Pattimura, and Costavina (Vonny) Litamahuputty, senior journalist and Editorial in Chief of Arikamedia attended it. They discussed about the vital roles of young generations in sustainable development in the Province of Maluku.
Maluku Province managed the young generations as one main target in long term – development plan. But to realize sustainable development and be existing in the climate change impacts, it would need the supports from many parties.
Back to Resni Soviyana, she said, "The roles of the young generations need to get increased in every development process to create the care that environmental issues would be important. We have the responsibilities to maintain environmental conservation because this is the rights to live for the next generation.”
