Ombudsman: Inputs from Palm Oil Stakeholders to Get Palm Oil Systemic Study

InfoSAWIT, PALANGKARAYA - Ombudsman Indonesian Republic got many inputs from ministries, regional government, smallholders, and related associations in palm oil sectors to formulate systemic study about palm oil governance. Focus groups discussion (FGD) at Luwansa Hotel, Palangkaraya on Thursday (22/8/2024), was about to get inputs about the challenges in these sectors.

The member of Ombudsman RI, Yeka Hendra Fatika said that it would be significant to involve many ministries, institutions, regional governments, to get insight about palm oil governance issues in palm oil sectors. “The inputs would be the recommendation for Ombudsman to get systemic study to improve (some) policy,” he said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of Ombudsman, Saturday (24/8/2024).

FGD was focusing on public service perspectives, encouraging stakeholders to deliver their skills. The findings from the systemic study would be directly spoken to related ministries/instituions after the new government transition.

Yeka also said the systemic study should be finished in the midst of September 2024. "We believed the study would significantly deliver impacts systemically,” he said.

One director of Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency, Sunari appreciated the initiative of Ombudsman to start the systemic study. “From the field visit in Central Kalimantan and Riau Province, we would wait for the recommendation from Ombudsman to improve palm oil governance in Indonesia, namely in (independent and plasma) smallholders, and multi-national scale companies,” he said.

The participants in the FGD were from Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial/National Land Agency, Coordinator Ministry in Economy, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of National Development Plan/National Development Plan Agency and Central Kalimantan Province.
