PT SCI and GPPI with Sulawesi Palm Oil Belt Program: Would Develop 1 Million Hectares Palm Oil Plantations

InfoSAWIT, MAKASSAR – PT Sulsel Citra Indonesia (SCI) (Perseroda) and Gabungan Pengusaha Perkebunan Indonesia (GPPI) signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) to continue Sulawesi Palm Oil Belt Program in May 2024. The program was re-claimed because the island would have the big potential to develop palm oil industries.

Machmud Achmad, Director in duty of PT SCI said that Sulawesi Palm Oil Belt was the old initiative that would be re-conducted. The goal would be about to develop palm oil plantations and industries in the island, starting from South Sulawesi to North Sulawesi. The total plantations to be developed would be one million hectares.

“The program would deliver many profits for South Sulawesi Province, including to take advantages on abandoned areas where they were not cultivated,” Machmud Achmad said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from KBRN RRI, Friday (23/8/2024).

He also mentioned one main profit from palm oil plantations is that the fresh fruit bunch would be relatively stable to other commodities. The wastes are also potential to be sold and could get carbon fund.

Machmud also emphasized by realizing the program, FFB price in the future would be regulated better, delivering stable economy for the smallholders and stakeholders in the region.

Sulawesi Palm Oil Belt should be the main factor to develop economy in Sulawesi and support sustainable palm oil industries in Indonesia. (T2)
