InfoSAWIT, MEDAN – Central Chairman of Federasi Serikat Buruh Perkebunan Indonesia (F. SERBUNDO), Herwin Nasution emphasized that it would be significant to deliver legal protection for palm oil plantation labors/workers because many of them did not get their basic rights, such as, health and employment insurance.

Nasution said that when handing over the academic transcript and draft of regional government regulation about palm oil plantation labors/workers protection in sensitive gender in the hall of Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) Fraction, Thursday, 15 August 2024.

"Many labors did not get their rights, such as, health and employment insurance, unclear work status, decent income, work health and safety, including freelances, ghost labors, outsourcing, and rights to get union,” he said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from KBRN RRI, Sunday (18/8/2024).

He also said that the labors did much burden with the target system based on time, width or the combination of the two. If the targets are not realized, they would get sanction from the managements of a company.

The commitment of F. SERBUNDO to fight for the labors’ rights was positively welcome by Hendro Susanto, the members of North Sumatera Legislators from PKS fraction. He supported the efforts and would study the draft in his fraction.

“We hope that the draft would be one topic to discuss for the North Sumatera Legislators in 2024 – 2029 and would be categorized in the regional legislation program and following every process and phase needed to encourage it,” he said.

This should deliver real changes for palm oil plantation labors/workers to deliver better legal protection and confirm their rights fulfilled. (T2)
