Palm Oil Fire in Palm Oil Plantations in Mesuji Got Wider: Keep Extinguishing

InfoSAWIT, MESUJI – The fire in the forests and areas that happened in palm oil plantations that a private company operated in Village of Sriwijaya (C2), Sub district of Tanjung Raya, Mesuji, since Friday (9/8/2024) still took place until Sunday (11/8/2024). The fires still burned and forced the fire officers to keep extinguishing it.

The three day – fire has burned about 60 hectares palm oil plantations. The hard wind and dry land because of dry season would be the main factors in the fire extinguishing.

Data report from Pusdalops Regional Disaster Management Agency (RDMA) Lampung Province uploaded through BMKG Lampung Instagram mentioned that the fire happened in a private plantation company in the village.

The fire control team that consists of four persons of RDMA, five officers of fire officers, ten officers of the company’s workers, kept doing their best to extinguish the fire. The used one machine of fire extinguisher, a unit alkon, one car to supply water to extinguish the fire and block the fire (not to get spread).

“Until 11 August 2024, the team still did their best to extinguish the fire,” the information from BPBD Lampung instagram noted, as InfoSAWIT monitored.

Prior, Geophysics, Climatology, Meteorology Agency (GCMA) published early warning system about the potential of hard rain and draught that would last from August 2024 to January 2024. The extreme weather caused by La Nina, would escalate the fire risks in many regions, including in Lampung Province.

GCMA did warn that meteorologic drought that started by the early of August 2024 would be in alert classification. The people and related parties should keep monitoring every fire risk that would happen in many regions in Indonesia. (T2)
