The First EduPalm by MPOC Successfully Increased the Student’s Understanding about Palm Oil

InfoSAWIT, PETALING JAYA – Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) successfully conducted EduPalm, the educational initiative to deliver deeper understanding for many students and teachers about palm oil industries in the country. The three day – event that started from on 26 – 28 July 2024 at SD Guthrie Ecogardens, Banting, Selangor would be comprehensively the good one for educational program about palm oil for the first time in Malaysia.

The opening session was attended by 69 participants from University of Malaya and University of Putra Malaysia including those that studied at Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Malaysia. EduPalm program was arranged as a two year – event to expand the cover for students and teachers in the country. The next session would be for teachers in junior high schools in Lembah Klang and would be conducted by the late of this year.

The participants enjoyed their experiences in learning, including the informative presentation about sustainability, the advantages of health, and social – economic impacts from palm oil. The program also showed field visit "Know Your Palm Oil" (KYPO) that was led by SD Guthrie by delivering the direct insight about palm oil plantation ecosystems.

To reinforce their learning (process), the participants got involved in “Palm Adventure Race,” an outdor and interactive game that MPOC developed. The event was about to combine happiness, fund with educative challenges, it was designed to deepen their understanding about palm oil industries.

CEO MPOC, Belvinder Sron emphasized, it would be significant to get public awareness about palm oil sustainable industries. “Palm oil significantly contributed for gross domestic product in Malaysia but was always criticized about social and environmental issues. EduPalm program would bridge the gap by involving the future leaders – the students and the teachers in junior high schools – to dynamically learn that focuses on sustainable palm oil industries,” he said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from MPOC, Friday (9/8/2024).

MPOC would anticipate the progress in EduPalm to get the generations that understand about palm oil economically and sustainably. The initiative would cover the school outreach and collaboration with Les' Copaque to produce ‘Upin and Ipin’ episode that everything would be designed and formulated to increase the awareness and appreciation for palm oil industries for young generations for the youth in Malaysia.
