Southeast Sulawesi Plantation Agency Distributed 65 Thousand Palm oil Seeds for the Smallholders Freely

InfoSAWIT, KENFROM – Horticulture and Plantation Agency Southeast Sulawesi Agency distributed 65 thousand palm oil seeds for the smallholders in th province. It was part of the government’s program to escalate the quality and production results of agriculture in the Bumi Anoa.

“Besides palm oil seeds, we did distributed other plantations, such as, nutmeg about 28 thousand, areca nut 37 thousand, durian 30 thousand, mangoes 40 thousand, and cayenne pepper about 20 thousand," Head of Plantation, Plantation Horticulture and Plantation Agency Southeast Sulawesi Province, Akbar Effendi said in Kendari, Thursday.

The seeds were free as the concern of the government about plantation and horticulture sectors. The goal would be about to escalate the farmers and smallholders’ welfare in the province. The seeds would be distributed before the 2024 dry season.

“By the program, we do hope the commodity production result and quality would get escalated,” Akbar said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from Antara, Friday (9/8/2024).

The horticulture seeds distributed were durian, mango and cayenne pepper that reached 20 thousand seeds.

He hoped the commodities would be taken for advantages by the smallholders to deliver fruits for themselves.

To get the free seeds, the farmers and smallholders’ group should have decision from the village secretariat or head of village, should have registered areas in Sistem Informasi Manajemen Penyuluhan Pertanian (Simultan) application. "The groups in the regencies/cities should propose in the first place to head of horticulture and plantation agency and be registered in counselor system and have the areas,” Akbar said.

In the counselor system, the smallholders and farmers’ data should be completed with their areas so that the government would monitor each progress and would deliver technical helps needed. “Besides, they would get development from the counselors regularly and periodically,” he said. (T2)
