InfoSAWIT, MEDAN – It would not be successful to escalate palm oil production when inserting immature palm oil tree between productive palm oil trees.

Djend Muhayat of Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) Medan said that inserting immature palm oil tree between the 13 year old – trees would be the fault. It is not a must because the productive trees should be kept producing without any disturbance.

Productive palm oil trees need enough space, sunshine, and water. But if they are disrupted by other plants, there would be competition to get resources, such as, water and sunshine. The productivity would be disrupted. He also said, this kind of activity would significantly decrease the production.

To increase the production well, Djend Muhayat suggested to maximize water needs and sunshine, confirm that every midrib would be enough, nutrients for the tress should be enough.

“The potential decreasing production should be known by implementing the right technical issue, not by multiplying the population of the plants randomly. Everything has its own good, the management should be adjustable with the plants’ capacity and needs,” Djend Muhayat explained, as InfoSAWIT quoted from from PPKSTV, Saturday (27/7/2024).

It means, the wise things to cultivate palm oil plantations would be the need to confirm the optimal production without scarifying the quality and environmental sustainability. (T2)
