InfoSAWIT, LABUHANBATU UTARA – Palm oil has the high economic value and becomes the backbone of palm oil industries in Indonesia. Palm oil cultivation would optimally need series of phases, starting from the area preparation, selecting superior seeds, until the harvest process. Every phase should be correctly conducted to maximize palm oil production and qualify.

Even though it highly has economic potential, palm oil cultivation is always the focus for many because the its impacts for the environment. Palm oil new planting always delivered deforestation that would deliver impacts to minimize natural conservation and escalate green-house gas emission. That is why it would be significant to implement sustainable and environmental palm oil cultivation.

Indonesia in one biggest palm oil producer in the world and Sumatera and Kalimantan are the main producers that fulfilled 80% of palm oil production nationally. The people of Indonesia have cultivated palm oil as the source of daily need commercially. To escalate its productivity and harvest quality, the smallholders need to master modern technic and select superior seeds.

Regency of Labuhanbatu Utra conducted palm oil cultivation technical training in Lee Polonia Hotel, Medan on 24 to 29 June 2024 to escalate palm oil productivity. It was attended by Head of Agriculture Regency of Labuhanbatu Utara, Sudarija and joined by 162 participants.

According to the Technical Recommendation of General Director of Plantation Ministry of Agriculture Number 660/Sm.120/E/11/2023, the training did consist of some parts, for instance, in Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification process that involved 29 participants; for cultivation that involved 103 participants; and location map technic that involved 30 participants.

As InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of Regency of Labuhanbatu Utara, Wednesday (26/6/2024), Head of Agriculture Agency Regency of Labuhanbatu Utara, Sudarija appreciated Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA), General Directorate of Plantation, North Sumatera Livestock and Plantation Agency for their supports to conduct the training. It would be in the forms of description theoretically and field visit to the mills of PT. Adolina.

It is hoped the training would escalate the smallholders’ understanding and skills about sustainable palm oil cultivation and would take advantages on palm oil potential massively while maintain the social and environmental aspects. (T2)
