Jokowi and Minister of Climate and Environment, Norway Discussed Palm Oil Discriminatory and Folu Netsink 2030 Issues

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) did welcome the visit of Minister of Climate and Environment Norway, Andreas Bjelland Erikson in Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Sunday. It was about to discuss the cooperation between the two countries and palm oil discriminatory issues.

President Jokowi was with Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar and Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani. Minister Siti Nurbaya said the discussion was about memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Norway.

"We discussed about MoU between Indonesia and Norway. The main target of Indonesia is about forestry and other land use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030," Siti Nurbaya said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from Antara, Monday (3/6/2024).

Indonesia got the fund support from Norway for about 156 million US dollar to help decrease 30,2 million tons of carbon which would be part of Indonesia’s effort in climate action.

Besides, President Jokowi emphasized that it would be important for Norway to get better understanding so that there would be no discriminatory about palm oil from Indonesia. Siti Nurbaya also said that Indonesia has dealt with palm oil issues well.

“President wanted that Norway should have the right perception and understanding so that there would be no discriminatory about palm oil. These have been managed well,” Siti Nurbaya said.

The discussion was also about inventory methodology that European Union is being managed in European Union Deforestation Regulatio (EUDR). Indonesia also criticizes area inventory method and would keep working to perfect it.

Minister Andreas Bjelland Erikson thanked President Jokowi for having time to discuss. Norway was proud of cooperating and collaborating with Indonesia knowing that Indonesia significantly realized deforestation issues.

“Indonesia has significantly solved deforestation issue,” Erikson said.

The meeting emphasized the two countries are committed to reinforce the cooperation in environment, solve palm oil discriminatory issues that Indonesia still concerns about. (T2)
