Italy: Offered Technical Solution for CPO and Coffee from Indonesia that Gets Impacts from EUDR

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The Ambassador of Italy for Indonesia, Benedetto Latteri delivered announcement that the Government of Italy and the private sectors in the country offered technical solution for export mainstay products from Indonesia, such as, crude palm oil and coffee for getting the impacts from European Union Deforestation Regulation. One offered innovation is certification scheme to confirm the obedience in EUDR.

To discuss the offer deeper, Latteri also invited the representatives of Ministry of Trade to Italy. The meeting would involve Minister of External Affairs and International Cooperation, Italy, and Port Authority of Genova and Trieste. The discussion would focus on technical aspects to facilitate product exports from Indonesia to Europe.

In the same chance, Minister of Trade Indonesian Republic, Zulkifli Hasan also asked for the support from Italy to accelerate the agreement negotiation in Indonesian European Union – Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU–CEPA). Minister Zulkifli also said that Indonesia and Italy would share the same interest to solve the negotiation as fast as it could.

“Indonesia has the same ambition to solve IEU CEPA in 2024 as President Joko Widodo and President Ursula von der Leyen, instructed. Indonesia did welcome the positive results in the 18th round to solve CEPA negotiation,” Zulfkifly said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Friday (24/5/2024).

In the crucial phase, both parties should get pragmatic approach and show flexibility in certain issues to realize the profitable cooperation and agreement for both sides.

These reflected the two countries are committed to reinforce economic relation and confirm the mainstay product exports from Indonesia in the global trade. By the support and technical solution from Italy, it is hoped CPO and coffee from Indonesia would qualify international – scale standards and be competitive in European Union. (T2)
