InfoSAWIT, PEKANBARU – Assistant I Riau Province Secretariat, Zulkifli Syukur officially inaugurated national – scale discussion with the theme “Perkebunan Sawit, Kesejahteraan Rakyat dan Masa Depan Energi Nasional”. It was conducted by Pengurus Wilayah Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) Riau Province in the Hotel Pangeran, Pekanbaru.

In his speech, Zulkifli Syukur said that plantation sectors, namely palm oil has become the main economic pillar for the past decade. When Covid-19 hit, the sector positively developed.

“Palm oil plantation development directly delivered profits for the people, contributed to the region, and minimize unemployment and poverty,” he said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of Riau Province, Sunday (19/5/2024).

He also said that the government would do its best to escalate downstream industries to get more optimal utilization in this country. It is hoped that the downstream would minimize the dependence on raw material exports but escalate palm oil additional value - products.

“To support it, we would ask for your supports including PWNU Riau that actively discusses palm oil sustainability in Riau,” Zulkifli said.

Chairman of PWNU Riau, Sulaiman Tanjung also said that Riau is the province within the largest palm oil plantations in Indonesia. The people really depend on palm oil as the source of living.

“We chose the them about palm oil in this discussion because many smallholders in Riau are the flocks of NU. That is why PWNU Riau has the vision to deliver benefits for the flocks by supporting this sector,” Sulaiman said. (T2)
