RSI in Encouraging Palm Oil – Paddy Gogo Integrated Program

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – To escalate the welfare and plant diversification, a campaign was launched to encourage othes to start getting insightand chance to plant paddy gogo when having replanting program. The campaign would not be only the invitation but also to deliver real sample and proof of success in the method. For the start, it needs to get test of planting paddy gogo. It should be coordinated with related agencies (the local agriculture and food security agencies).

Chairman of Rumah Sawit Indonesia (RSI), Kacuk Sumarto said it would be very important to involve the local related instances to confirm that the method and technic to be applied would be the same with the good agricultural standards. It needs to get supports from the regent to reinforce the legal and successful program in the region.

“It needs to get test of planting paddy gogo (in palm oil plantation in replanting program), get coordination with local instances (agriculture and food security agencies), and of course, it needs the supports from the regent,” he said to InfoSAWIT in an interview recently.

Kacuk also mentioned that the campaign should involve many others to be distributing (superior) seeds, other production infrastructure providers, off taker in the first place to confirm that there would be parties to get paddy gogo production. “Coordination would guarantee the good flow of every process, since the planting to the distribution of harvest,” Kacuk said.

Meanwhile the smallholders’ plantations should get partnership with the companies, as developers. The developers would be important to technically develop the smallholders in management and they would cultivate more effectively and efficiently.

“It is hoped the development would escalate the smallholders’ capacity in skills and knowledge about planting paddy gogo,” he said.

To get long term – success, partnership with the governments both the central and regional, would be a must to formulate regulation in supporting the intercrops.

“Having partnership with the governments would be about to formulate intercrops to deliver advantages for every actor in national scale, and maintain the sustainability of the main plant,” Kacuk said. (T2)
