InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Some also said that pouring feces of cow in the form of fertilizer would make the early attack of Ganoderma fungus worse. But in this context, this is not fully right. The enzymes produced by the microbes in feces of cow would not always be fixed with the substrate in soil or Ganoderma fungus. For instance, lactase enzyme produced by feces of cow tends to chance the organic material structures which are different from the substrate used by Ganoderma fungus.
“Basal stem rot disease attack which was caused by Ganoderma boninense has nothing to do with pouring animal fertilizer or feces of cow compost,” Cico Jhon Karunia Simamora of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tanjungpura, said.
Even biocontrol agent substance and substrate in feces of cow play their roles as source of natural enemy and Ganoderma enzyme inactivator. Pouring hara or feces of cow would actively escalate defense to Ganoderma boninense attack.
“That is why pouring feces of cow in the form of fertilizer indirectly cause the increasing attack of Ganoderma fungus but in the contrary, feces of cow would multiply additional nutrition needed by the plants to escalate their defense to disease attacks, including from Ganoderma fungus,” Cico said.
It means, it is very important to get deeper understanding about the roles of microbes in feces of cow and how the interaction with agriculture. By having better understanding about the factors that influence Ganoderma fungus development and how to effectively cultivate land, we would minimize the risk of disease attacks and escalate plantation productivity in a whole.
