SPKS: The Elected President and Vice President Should Support Sustainable Smallholders

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) congratulated the elected president and vice president in 2024-2029 that General Election Commission (GEC) sentenced 24 April 2024. The new leaders in this country, as SPKS hoped, should support sustainable smallholders.

The Government Indonesia accomplished general election this year. It means, the elected President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka would be taking oath in October 2024.

SPKS also congratulated every elected legislator in each city/regency/province, and center and this would be a victory for the people of Indonesia for having the election in safe situation and well done.

“Congratulation for Mister Prabowo and Mister Gibran as the elected President and Vice President in 2024 - 2029", Chairman of SPKS, Sabarudin, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (29/4/2024).

It is hoped they would support to improve sustainable palm oil cultivation practices. He thought, the smallholders still need the supports and helps from the Government of Indonesia.

As part of pillar of economy in Indonesia, palm oil also massively contributed to the revenue in non-oil and gas sectors. That is why the president and vice president should support smallholders in national scale to encourage Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) implementation for the smallholders’ levels.

The fund supports from Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) to empower smallholders should be reinforced by the regional government through the fund that derives from palm oil profit sharing that many regionals government achieved. By the supports from regional and central governments, SPKS hoped, there would be smallholders’ cultivation improvements to accelerate ISPO certification.

ISPO certification which would be mandatory for smallholders should significantly deliver direct influences to escalate their plantation productivity and economy. That is why there should be collaboration among the governments to encourage trainings about sustainable cultivation practices in palm oil plantation centers nationally.

It needs to encourage and accelerate ISPO certification through jurisdiction approach in one administrative region to involve many people and smallholders. “Jurisdiction approach could be the same optioin to accelerate ISPO certification,” Sabarudin said.

For your information, SPKS keeps doing cultivation trainings in many regions and in collaboration with many stakeholders, including central and regional governments and other stakeholders. This should be always escalated in the future with the supports from the elected president and vice president.

He also thanked the supports and helps that President Joko Widodo and Vice President KH. Ma'aruf Amin and their ministers delivered for all these years namely smallholders of SPKS. “In the future, SPKS hoped the sustainability of helps from the future leaders,” he said.

“Hopefully the supports from the government for smallholders would be sustainable in the future,” Sabarudin said by hoping that the elected legislators would also supervise the future government. “The party of democracy has been accomplished. Let us celebrate with hard work and develop sustainable palm oil together,” he said. (T1)
