South Kalimantan Province Launched Palm Oil – Paddy Intercrops Program to Escalate Food Security

InfoSAWIT, BANJARBARU - South Kalimantan Province did a brave action to escalate food security in the province. Through Livestock and Plantation Agency, the province launched the first planting in the smallholders’ replanting program (SRP) for plasma and in intercrop method with paddy gogo. The program would be the first in Kalimantan Island with its kick off in Kotabaru, Wednesday (24/4/2024).

Governor’s expert staff in Economy and Development, South Kalimantan Secretariat, Agus Dyan Nur who represented the Governor of South Kalimantan Province, Sahbirin Noor, told that the intercrops program between palm oil and paddy gogo would be the incredible breakthrough. It would be not only the innovative solution to deliver answer the challenges of era but also the answer to what people of South Kalimantan need, which is, rice.

South Kalimantan Province did welcome and appreciate the program that Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) initiated. This also showed the real commitment and collaboration from many parties to maintain food security, particularly rice that many concern about.

“Palm oil – paddy intercrop program is the very good breakthrough and could be taken as the innovation to answer the challenge of the era,” Agus Dyan said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of South Kalimantan Province, Thursday (24/4/2024).

Not only that, the province also plays its roles as one pillar of food security in national level. It declared its self as the Gate of Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) and as part of the commitment, South Kalimantan should be ready to be the supporting and pillar region to IKN. (T2)
