New Way Construction: Boost Smallholders’ Welfare in Kotawaringin Timur

InfoSAWIT, KOTAWARINGIN TIMUR - Asosiasi Petani Sawit Indonesia (Apkasindo) Regency of Kotawaringin Timur really supported what the regency has facilitated – constructing new way from kilometer 62 on Jalan Jendral Sudirman heading to Bagendang Port. The construction would positively deliver impacts for smallholders in the region significantly.

A member of Apkasindo, Yunan Nasution did welcome the new way construction. He thought, it would be easily to transport fresh fruit bunch (FFB) to the gathering spot or mill. Far distance between the location (plantations) to harvest and mill is always the main issue to distribute the smallholders’ harvest. It is hoped the new way would solve it.

One advantage from the new way construction is that there would be lower cost to transport FFB harvest. This would positively deliver impacts for the smallholders’ welfare. “Besides, the transportation would be faster, traffic jam and accident would be less,” he recently said to InfoSAWIT.

Nasution continued there would be many social and economic advantages from the new way construction. He thought, the better infrastructure would escalate the people’s economy in a whole, encourage development in many villages. “It is hoped to escalate plantation productivity, big private companies’ productivity within higher efficiency when distributing the harvest,” Nasution said.
