BIG and Ministry of Agriculture Did Update Palm Oil Plantations to be 17,3 Million Hectares

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – In coordination meeting about the Implementation of President’s Instruction Number 6 / 2019 about Rencana Aksi Nasional Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan in 2019 – 2024, Head of Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG), Muh Aris Marfai delivered the latest report about the implementation of thematic geospatial about palm oil plantation canopy.

BIG and Ministry of Agriculture did measure palm oil plantations (width) in 2019 and did update palm oil plantation map in 1:50.000 scale in 2023. The result was that palm oil plantations laid about 17,3 million hectares (ha).

“But the numbers have not been integrated in kebijakan satu peta (KSP),” Muh Aris Marfai said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of BIG, Monday (1/4/2024).

Meanwhile, Coordinator Minister in Economy, Airlangga Hartarto that lead the meeting, told that since being implemented in 2017, palm oil plantations that got smallholders replanting program (SRP) laid on about 50 thousand ha per year. The numbers were narrowere than the targets that should be 180 thousand ha per year. That is why the meeting was approved to accelerate SRP.

Besides, palm oil plantation issue in forest regions was discussed. There were many scenarios to be prepared as mandated in Undang-Undang Cipta Kerja.

Many representatives attended the meeting, such as, from Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial/National Land Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency, and regional governments. (T2)
