InfoSAWIT, BELITUNG TIMUR – Palm oil plantation company, PT Sahabat Mewah dan Makmur (SMM), the subsidiary of PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk. (ANJ) re-awarded its partners – the smallholders – in five unions. It was the premium numbers from sustainable palm oil trade with the total, Rp 442.283.998. The premium award was symbolically handed over to the representative of each union at ANJ Learning Center.

This year premium award increased 29% to the previous year that reached Rp 340.769.162. The unions are Koperasi Mitra Lestari, Koperasi Sambar Jaya Makmur, Koperasi Mitra Anugrah, Koperasi Berhimpun Sejahtera, and Koperasi Lindong Raya. They manage more than 376 smallholders with certified plantations about 755.08 hectares (ha).

Vice Director of ANJ, Geetha Govindan told that the premium award on sustainable palm oil emphasized the commitment of SMM to contribute in economic development, empower the villagers in Belitung Timur. Geetha also emphasized that the cooperation between SMM and smallholders deliverd real advantages for the smallholders themselves.

“Sustainable palm oil premium award is one of our commitments to get partnership with seven unions and one Village Enterprises. Five of seven unions, got incentive from Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) premium price. We congratulate them for it. It is also hoped that the premium price would motivate the smallholders in partnership with SMM to escalate their production quality in the future,” Geetha said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (1/4/2024).

Director of SMM, Juli Wankara Purba said that the increasing premium numbers were the good cooperation result between SMM team and plasma smallholders that the District of Belitung Timur fully supported. Purba also emphasized the commitment of SMM to implement good agricultural governance, get fresh fruit bunch (FFB) more selective to confirm that the production was derived from sustainable smallholders.

“This year increasing premium numbers happened for the increasing certified palm oil production from our plasma smallholders. In the future, SMM is committed to always implement good agricultural governance and get FFB production more selective to confirm that CPO production derived from sustainable smallholders,” Purba said.

The representative of Koperasi Berhimpun Sejahtera, Harman mentioned that it is significant to escalate the future premium price and share innovation in premium price for the union members through bank system to get security, accuracy, and better practices.

Regent of Belitung Timur, Burhanudin who did attend the ceremony appreciated the annual initiative of SMM to hand over sustainable palm oil premium price as the real sample of symbiosis mutualism between the company and smallholders. He hoped this would be the inspiration for others to do the same.

The ceremony was also attended by Vice Regent of Belitung Timur, representatives from Cooperation, Agriculture, and Plantation Agency Belitung Timur, heads of sub districts, heads of villages in the regency. This showed the full supports from the district and local communities to develop and empower the villagers and local people. (T2)
