InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource (MEMR) emphasized biodiesel plays crucial roles as one new renewable energy to realize carbon emission reduction to be net zero emission in 2060. New renewable energy to energy mixture in national level, bioenergy has successfully realized 7,7 percent or 60 percent from the total energy mixture, according to the data mentioned by General Director in duty of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation MEMR, Jisman P. Hutajulu.

It was said in a bioenergy industrial seminar that Asosiasi Produsen Biofuel Indonesia (APROBI) conducted in Jakarta, Tuesday, 27 February 2024.

Hutajulu also appreciated APROBI in facing the challenges and opportunity in bioenergy sector. He emphasized it needs collaboration between the government and stakeholders in the industries.

One real successful evidence in biodiesel program is that the country saved revenue up to more than Rp 122 trillion in 2023. "In 2023, biodiesel about 12,3 million kiloliters were distributed in the domestic, it saved revenue about more than Rp 122 trillion, reduced green-house gas (GHG) emission up to about 132 million tons CO2," Hutajulu said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (28/2/2024).

Indonesia has the main commitment in climate change mitigation with two targets, such as, GHG emission reduction up to 29 percent in 2030 and 41 percent in the same year with other countries’ helps. Bioenergy is taken as one NRE that plays key roles to realize the targets.

Vice Chairman of APROBI, Catra de Thouars said that many people do not aware of bioenergy industries though palm oil biodiesel industries in Indonesia have gone forward for the past two decades whole over the world.

"When there was no mandatory program until it reaches biodiesel 35 percent (B35), this becomes the advanced sector in the world,” Catra said.

The seminar discussed about the progress in European Union Deforestation Regulation, Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil implementation, bioenergy programs. This showed the seriousness to accelerate bioenergy implementation as one main solution to face climate change challenges to realize sustainable development goals. Bioenergy that consists of many sources, such as, biomass, biogas, and vegetable fuel would massively have the potential to substitute fossil energy in many sectors, including the plants, transportation, commercialization, and housings.
