Sustainable Palm Oil Is Always Spoken but Few Realized

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, Simon SC Tay said that the many parties notice the issues and the responsibility for those that join Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). But it is proved that every RSPO member commits to reach out triple bottom line (environment, social, and governance/ESG) for the past 20 years.

He said in a RSPO meeting session of Roundtable Conference (RT2023) with the theme ‘Shaping The Next 20: Synergizing Policies and Strategies for Sustainable Palm Oil’ by the late of November 2023 in Jakarta. Though there are progresses, Simon told that there would be lots to be improved in the journey to realize sustainable palm oil.

Meanwhile Group Managing Director Sime Darby Plantation Berhad, Datuk Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha said the same perspective. Though the term ‘sustainable palm oil’ is always said, only few men really implement and accept the concept. Sustainability is really important namely in the uncertain situation that happens now.

He continued that the world needs more sustainable palm oil than it was. He thought, palm oil has the closest standard criteria in sustainability among other vegetable oils. He hoped palm oil industries would be tougher to face sustainability challenges for the next 20 to 4o years. (T2)
