Income of Koperasi Konsumen Bersatu Makmur Jaya Escalated from RSPO Credit that Reached US$ 71.230

InfoSAWIT, SIMALUNGUN – Koperasi Konsumen Bersatu Makmur Jaya in Nagori Boluk, Sub district of Perdagangan, Regency of Simalungun, North Sumatera Province got Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certificate since 2020. Having members about 271 smallholders and palm oil plantations about 659,38 hectares, the cooperation successfully produced about 2.233 tons crude palm oil (CPO) and 251 tons palm kernel oil within RSPO certificate.

2020 was the challenging year for the cooperation within income from RSPO credit selling only about US$ 20.450. It happenedfor the limited plantations and cheap buying price. But in 2021 the better price and palm oil plantations that got larger, the income from RSPO credit selling increased to be US$ 71.230.

"The income was about to deliver helps for the members, for instance, providing fertilizers freely and empower the female by cultivating yard to plant vegetables,” Chairman of Koperasi Konsumen Bersatu Makmur Jaya, Ardiansyah said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of Forum Petani Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan Indonesia (Fortasbi).

Besides, the cooperation successfully got productive partnership with Procter and Gamble (P&G); and GIVE and Go that help the cooperation to escalate market access for RSPO products.

Realizing that it is important to get sustainability, the cooperation also got supports from Unioleo, a company that operates in Sei Mangke, North Sumatera by having support and training programs. Unioleo helps the smallholders to implement more sustainable practices.

“We do hope CPO and PKO price would remain stable while the buyers keep supporting independent smallholders within fair price so that the cooperation would help the members, support other groups,” Suhadi, smallholder developer, said. (T2)
