InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – In National Press Day in Jakarta on 20 February 2024, Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) and Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia (PWI) did sign memorandum of understanding (MoU) to escalate journalists’ capacity and competence by having journalistic trainings that would have something to do with palm oil industries in Indonesia.
Chairman of IPOA, Eddy Martono told that the MoU would be part of IPOA contribution to support press in Indonesia. He thought, press would develop as the same as the nation goes forward. He told, through mass media, optimism to the potential of palm oil industries as the strategic commodity in this country would be informed more.
As the biggest palm oil producer in the world, Eddy realized the negative issues about palm oil industries keep raising, such as, human rights, environment, and sustainability. “Imbalance information in the society would be the main factor to crate many perceptions and they are often inaccurate with (the reality) in palm oil industries,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, ditulis Friday (23/2/2024).
He continued that the journalists should play important roles to deliver information which is accurate and objective about palm oil industries to the society. By having balance information and based on facts, they would deliver perception in the public and would educate the people about sustainability in these industries in Indonesia.
In the Press National Day 2024 at Ecovention Ancol, North Jakarta Utara, President Joko Widodo emphasized that it is important to realize press freedom to be one pillar of democracy. He reminded that press has to be the guard of truth and inform the real facts, not only assumption or subjective point of view.
To escalate the understanding about palm oil industries for the journalists, IPOA and PWI initiated journalistic workshop for junior journalist by hoping that they would get better and holistically understanding about palm oil industries that would be the guidance for them to do their work. (T2)
