InfoSAWIT, PEKANBARU – Governor of Riau, Edy Natar Nasution led an important meeting with many palm oil plantation companies in the province in Gedung Daerah Balai Serindit on Wednesday (24/1/2024). The goal was about to discuss conflicts between the companies and local people.
It was attended by Director of Plantation Product Marketing and Process General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Prayudi Syamsuri, many regents, mayors, other leaders, heads of agencies, indigenous institutions, land agencies, and other stakeholders.
Nasution identified some factors that triggered conflicts between the companies and people in Riau Province. The first, land recognition by the people/groups/cooperation in some areas of agricultural business permit, business rights, industrial forest permit and forest regions.
The second, indigenous land recognition by indigenous people in some of agricultural business permit, business rights, industrial forest permit and forest regions. The third, the claim to realize smallholders’ plantation development facility about minimally 20 percent from the total areas that a company develops. The fourth, partnership agreements or cooperation between plantation or forestry company and the people are not realized.
He also told about permit location that came to an end but the company did not deal with the plantation permit, and the people’s claim on their areas that in business rights extension. Nasution also told that some people and plantation companies’ areas are in forest regions.
“In association with the conflicts, regents and mayors should help to get solutions as fair as you could to create fairness in the society and a certainty for the stakeholders,” Nasution said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from Media Center Riau, Thursday (25/1/2024).
From meeting result, he told that there are many issues about palm oil plantations in Riau to be solved. The meeting should deliver profitable solution for many parties in the Bumi Lancang Kuning. (T2)
