InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - It is not easy to become a planter particularly in the technology era. Planters should be adaptive to maintain plantation productivity highly. Just like Abdul Hamdan Nasution told who works as planter for decades.
Planter(s) is a trend profession today particularly in palm oil (plantation) as one strategic commodity besides rubber, coffee, cocoa, and tea plantations.
It is not only about planting, the facts showed, planters play important roles to develop the strategic commodity because without credible and reliable planters, it is believed, palm oil would not develop well or deliver much revenue for this country.
As one veteran planter in Indonesia, Abdul Hamdan Nasution was born in Pamah Tambunan – a village in Sub district of Salapian, District of Langkat, North Sumatera.
He started his career as government officer in General Directorate of Plantation Ministry of Agriculture. He worked as staff in Plantation Agency Lampung Province in 1988 to 1992. But his inner heart different said that he was not happy working at bureaucracy. “My soul did not fit in working at bureaucracy. That is why I work as planter – field assistant in 1992, precisely at PT. PP London Sumatera Indonesia, Tbk.,” he recently said to InfoSAWIT.
As a senior planter that once developed palm oil and rubber, he really understands that planter(s) is the backbone to develop this strategic commodity. That is why a planter needs professional mentality and behavior.
By having many great experiences, Nasution always shared his knowledge as planter through the books he wrote. In this millennial era, planters should understand the change of era. The developing technology changed system and work attitude of nowadays planters. (T2)
