InfoSAWIT, DUBAI – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized the commitment of Indonesia to develop sustainable and prosperous country within inclusive economy. In the Conference of Parties (COP) 28 about climate change in Dubai, President Jokowi told that Indonesia would realize net zero emission in 2060 while doing the best to highly get economic progress, minimize poverty, and social gaps.
In his speech, President Jokowi said the details of what Indonesia has been doing to minimize carbon emission. The main focuses are about to escalate forest and other land use (FOLU) and accelerate transition heading to renewable energy use.
“FOLU management in Indonesia involved conservation and mangrove forest expansion, forest and rehabilitation,” President Jokowi said when delivering his speech in COP 28 about climate change in Plenary Al Ghafat, Expo City Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Friday, 1 December 2023.
Indonesia also successfully reduced deforestation level to the lowest point in the past two decades. This was supported by big scale - nursery development with total capacity up to about 75 billion seeds per year and they are now productive.
He also told that Indonesia is accelerating renewable energy development, such as, solar, wind, water, geothermal, and sea wave energy. Besides, Indonesia also focuses on palm oil biodiesel, bioethanol, and bio-aviation turbine development that gets wider.
To realize zero carbon commitment, President Jokowi invited multiparty – collaboration, including bilateral partners, private investment, philanthropy and other countries to unite in fund help that would be needed to realize zero net carbon emission in 2060 as same as Paris Agreement and net zero emission concept.
"The target in Paris Agreement and net zero emission would be realized if only we could solve fund issue in energy transition. This is where the problems in the world would get solution,” he said. (T2)
