InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Indonesian Bank (IB) officially announced to revoke coin distribution of rupiah, including 500 year of emission (YoE) 1991, 1.000 YoE 1993, and 500 YoE 1997. This is done through the implementation of the Regulation of Indonesian Bank Number 14 / 2023 that started on 1 December 2023.
The revoked coins have certain characteristics, for instance, 1.000 rupiah YoE 1993 with garuda picture and palm oil tree. 500 rupiah YoE 1997 has smaller jasmine writings and bigger number of 500. 500 rupiah YoE 1991 has jasmine writings and a jasmine picture with smaller number of 500.
The decision to revoke the rupiah coins is because of some considerations, such as, they have been in circular period for too long and material technology development for making coin.
As in the announcement that InfoSAWIT got, IB emphasized that after the announcement, the coins would not be the official money to trade in Indonesia.
That is why if the people still get such coins, IB would deliver time to change starting from 1 December 2023 until 1 December 2033 or a decade since they are revoked. Executive Director of Communication Department, Erwin Haryono said that the change can be in many banks or representatives of Indonesian Bank in Indonesia.
For information, before changing the coins, the people should book through smart application through https://www.pintar.bi.go.id. Every change process should refer to terms and conditions and information told about operational and public service schedule in Indonesian Bank. (T2)
