District of Pasaman Barat and Palm Oil Plantation Company Collaborate to Solve Poverty

InfoSAWIT, SIMPANG EMPAT – District of Pasaman Barat, West Sumatera Province took local palm oil plantation company to accelerate poverty alleviation in the region. By having corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund of the companies, the district and the companies would cooperate to conquer poverty which still haunts the people in Pasaman Barat.

The latest data in 2022 showed that poverty level in the district still reached 6,93 percent, involved 32.910 men within extreme poverty level at 0,76 percent or 3.588 men.

Regent of Pasaman Barat, Hamsuardi emphasized that it is important to get poverty numbers lower. The district planned to minimize the numbers to be 6,65 percent in 2024 and zero percent in extreme poverty level.

District of Pasaman Barat acknowledged that poverty is one serious challenge that needs fast and right control and management. That is why they would implement systemic, integrated, and whole approaches to solve poverty issue and fulfill the basic rights of the people in good ways. The goal is about to get inclusive, fair, and sustainable development to escalate the people’s dignity.

Regent Hamsuardi mentioned that it needs coordination among every sector and cooperation with many industries, such as, palm oil plantations. He announced the collaboration with PT Agrowiratama, a palm oil plantation company which is committed to contribute by allocating CSR fund. Since 2021 to 2023, PT Agrowiratama allocated CSR fund about Rp 488.600.000, Rp 902.300.000, and Rp 742.400.000 to many sectors, such as, religion, social, culture, environment, health, infrastructure, economy, and education.

“We invited other companies to conquer poverty which is in high level in this district,” Regent Hamsuardi said, as quoted from Antara.

Head in duty of Regional Development, Research, and Development Plan Agency District of Pasaman Barat, Ikhwanri hoped that the collaboration would accelerate to conquer poverty by emphasizing to have cooperation among many sectors and hoping that poverty would be decreasing in numbers.

"It needs cooperation among many sectors to conquer poverty level. Hopefully, poverty would decrease in numbers,” he said. (T2)
