InfoSAWIT, BOGOR – To reinforce the function of wildlife reserve conservation around Bian Lake (SM Bian, Merauke), escalate natural diversity, empower the people around it, realize environment social and governance, Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BBKSDA), South Papua Province and PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT. BIA) signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Hotel Sahira, Bogor on 20 October 2023.
Head of BBKSDA South Papua Province, A. G. Martana and President Director of PT. BIA, Hyun Chang Seop and other parties agreed to cooperate. It was attended by Director of Perencanaan Kawasan Konservasi (RKK), Ahmad Munawir.
The MoU would involve crude palm oil (CPO) producer company that operates in District of Merauke, South Papua Province since 2011.
A. G. Martana said that it needs to get supporting cooperation. The concession areas of PT. BIA and wildlife reserve around Bian Lake are so close. “That is why it needs to reinforce the function of conservation areas by having good and supporting cooperation one to another,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Thursday (26/10/2023).
Meanwhile President Director of PT. BIA, Hyun Chang Seop told that it is very important to maintain the environment good and empower the people around. “It is a pleasure to collaborate with the government to maintain the environment good and empower the local. Hopefully, everything would run well and deliver the positive for the nature and social life,” he said.
For information since March 2020, PT. BIA has strongly committed to sustainability that focuses on no deforestation, peat, and exploitation (NDPE). The company tries the best to realize “To become sustainable palm oil company which integrates and delivers contribution for the people”. This is proved that the company has got Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, and International Organization for Standardization.
Papua is known to have unique ecosystem on its natural wildlife and sanctuary around Bian Lake. They function as significant regions for animals, endemic plants, such as, stork, reptile, bird of paradise, and others. (T1)
