Collaboration Could be the Solution

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - The roles of central and regional government could always be parts of cooperation among stakeholders. In ABG theory developed since the early of 2000s, academy, business, and the government did many approaches to get solution on every raising issue.

The approach itself is part of collaboration which develops fast until now. If it relates to palm oil plantation development, ABG collaboration and FPIC could be the same solution for palm oil collaboration namely the plantations in remote areas.

Palm oil collaboration needed in the same future would not discuss only solution for one party but for many interests. For example, the smallholders’ low income could be the same interests with the same solution, such as, increasing their income to get the same welfare.

The regional governments should play important roles in this issue. Partnership system of plantation companies with smallholders (planters) could be encouraged to be the same solution. Academy could be also involved to get Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi done together with the application that palm oil plantation companies have made.

The best and sustainable cultivation practices could be the solution for smallholders. Knowledge plays the big roles to make smallholders’ plantation go forward. On the other hand, mills of plantation companies could be the guarantor on smallholders’ fresh fruit bunch production.

It is here that collaboration among the government, academy, plantation companies, smallholders could run together. Involving social and environmental non-government organizations could modernize other parties to get open, mutual benefit - cooperation and maintain the natural conservation good.

The shared roles and make the same interests as the same goal would be very significant for palm oil plantations in the future because every issue that raises up because of one’s interest that is forced, could trigger social and environment conflict that may not come to an end.

The never ending – conflict would raise much loss, not only for the people, but also palm oil plantation companies, including the regional governments. Social and environmental order would be broken and raise many other losses.

The main principle of stakeholders’ collaboration is that from and for unity, could be the main pillar to develop sustainable palm oil in the future. It would have no economic, social, and environmental issues, but focus on the same comfort and peace. If it is not us, who would be? If it is not now, when would be? Regards, Editorials
