South Kalimantan: Sustainable Palm Oil Center through RAD KSB

InfoSAWIT, BANJARMASIN – Governor of South Kalimantan through Secretary of South Kalimantan Province, Roy Rizal Anwar said that the province is one palm oil plantation producer that plays significant roles.

About that, the province has done real and concrete things heading to sustainable palm oil development by publishing the Governor’s Regulation Number 013 / 2023 about Rencana Aksi Daerah Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan (RAD-KSB) South Kalimantan Province in 2022 - 2024.

“We decided the clear direction to realize the vision and mission of South Kalimantan Province, which is, Kalsel Maju (Makmur, Sejahtera and Berkelanjutan) as the gate of Ibu Kota Negara,” Roy said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (23/8/2023).

General Director of Plantation Ministry of Agriculture, Andi Nur Alamsyah, said that his side would do the best to improve old, broken, unproductive palm oil trees by replanting program or rehabilitation. Data statistic of plantation in 2022 reveal that hardly 30 percent of the total plantations in Indonesia got old, broken, and unproductive.

“If everything has no immediately action, it would have something to do with plantation production and would decrease the revenue,” Andi said.

He also told that plantations are long term investment and it needs to get preparation well. The most important thing is the planting o seeds. His side is also very serious to prepare qualified plantation seeds to support increasing production, additional values, and competition.

“It is realized by making seed distribution, monitoring and procurement system through Bank Benih Perkebunan (BABE BUN),” he said.

Andi mentioned, the application system would focus to support smallholders replanting program and the stakeholders would use it to get easier access to get seeds and palm oil seed business would be opener, no monopoly and get more organized distribution.

“Palm oil would have future concept, which is, “Sawit Satu’ to improve its governance and have integrated system in spatial base. It needs innovative and collaborative work with many,” Andi said.

For information, South Kalimantan is one palm oil plantation center in Indonesia in Kalimantan Island. It is strategic enough. The plantations contributed 3,1 percent from the total plantations, and 2,6 percent from the total production in Indonesia. (T2)
