Technical Advisor GIZ – Sulam, Asrijon Tanjung said, it is the successful collaboration among East Kalimantan Province, District of Kutai Timur (Kutim), and Mitra Pembangunan GIZ to realize sustainable development. The independent smallholders got two standards of sustainability at once.

“And one village spatial program that arranges regional allocation based on its potential and decision to local protection regions, such as, cultural heritage and conservation areas,” Tanjung said to InfoSAWIT through e-mail recently.

He also said, for special, Village Nehas Liah Bing which it is cultural and indigenous village, through Koperasi Kel’ean Blom Kejah, is the proof that the indigenous villagers could follow their brothers in transmigration program. This is extraordinary.

Prior in Subdistrict of Kombeng, in the midst of 2022, there were four unions getting ISPO and RSPO certificates, they were, Koperasi Jasa Mutiara Kombeng, Koperasi Perkebunan Sawit Marga Indah, Koperasi Serba Usaha Pantun Sejahtera, and Koperasi Serba Usaha Makarti.

For information, there are two programs that GIZ – SCPOPP have done in Sub district of Kombeng and GIZ-Sulam. The programs are about to encourage and support sustainable palm oil for the smallholders in East Kalimantan Province. The programs are the cooperation in the form of memorandum of understanding among East Kalimantan Province through Plantation Agency, District of Kutim, and GIZ as developer to support Smallholders’ Sustainable Palm Oil Plantation in 2019 to March 2023.

Representative of Plantation Agency East Kalimantan Province, Fauzi said, this is the same with the plan of sustainable palm oil plantation of East Kalimantan Province. The government would escalate the achievement with other supporting programs to get sustainable plantation development with its action plans, such as, the first, escalate the target to get certification in strategic plans of plantation agency in 2024 -2026 which the first was 2 to become 5. The next year, from 5 to become 20 certificates, and so on. “The second, escalate the budget allocation in plantation agency,” Fauzi said.

Acting Head of Smallholder Program RSPO, Guntur C Prabowo said that the institution is happy for there is one cooperation from Dayak Indigenous Peole that got ISPO and RSPO certificate. For all these years, negative campaigns in palm oil always told that palm oil industries put indigenous people aside. “The proof is that the (indigenous) people themselves prove they are involved in sustainable palm oil development,” he said.
