InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Many countries try to reduce green-house gas (GHG) emission to restrain warming in the globe. Indonesia also commits to reduce GHG emission for about 29% within its own efforts and for about 41% within the helps from many countries in 2030.
To realize the target, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource (MEMR) did many mitigation actions. Based on data from Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF), since 2019 carbon dioxide emission in energy and mineral resource reduced from the target.
“Emission reduction in 2022 was good enough. It was over target. In 2023 there would be additional targets in energy sector,” Minister of Energy and Mineral Resource, Arifin Tasrif said at a press conference about Capaian Kinerja Tahun 2022 dan Program Kerja Kementerian ESDM Tahun 2023 in Jakarta by the late of January 2023.
Data from Energy and Mineral Resource showed that GHG emission reduction covered that in 2019 it was reaching 54,8 million tons of the target 51 million tons. In 2020, the target 58 million tons while the realization reached 64,4 million tons. In 2021, the target 67 million tons while the realization reached 70 million tons. The last in 2022, target of reduction emission reached 91 million tons while the realization reached 91,5 million tons.
The other achievement was that our energy intensity reached 0,335 ton per citizen. "What we have to campaign is that the intensity could increase to be 0,5 ton per citizen and keep increasing,” he said.
Indonesia commits to reduce emission as the determined target. It is reinforced by Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document which was presented to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). (T2)
