InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - By carrying up the interest of palm oil producer, Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) would execute some acts that the members need. For now, they are Indonesia and Malaysia. But Executive Director of CPOPC, Rizal Affandi believed, CPOPC would be the front guard to face palm oil trade issues in the global level.

It is admitted or not palm oil is the only vegetable oil within the highest productivity of all kinds. For instance, soyoil could produce 0,3 tons oil per hectare per year. Sunflower could only produce 0,4 tons oil per hectare per year and canola could only produce 0,7 tons oil per hectare per year. “Compare with palm oil. It could produce 3 tons oil per hectare per year,” he recently said when talking to InfoSAWIT in his office.

Rizal that since June 2022 substituted Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Yusof Basiron, said, palm oil mainstay is not only about productivity but also about competitive price. It can be applied to many materials both for food and energy. “Actually, palm oil has become the solution for supply issues which once was disrupted because of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” he said.

When the main vegetable oil supply was disrupted, such as, sunflower oil which 79% of the supply derives from Russia and Ukraine and delivered impacts about 30% to 40% of the world supply, palm oil can cover up the needs. “It was normal if palm oil exports to European Union significantly increased,” Rizal said.

But he reminded European Union not to import palm oil when they needed while in the normal situation, the continent bans with trade barriers. Rizal said, CPOPC should exist that palm oil is fairly needed by European Union. (T2)
