Besides Fund, The Implementation of RAN-KSB Needs Multi-sector Cooperation

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Actually, President’s Instruction Number 6 / 2019 about Rencana Aksi Nasional Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan (RAN-KSB) in 2019 – 2024 by ministries/institution needs lots of fund. But in the early of 2020, the government prioritized to deal with Covid-19 and refocused the budget to many development programs, including President’s Instruction Number 6 / 2019.

That is why Deputy Coordinator in Food and Agribusiness Coordination, Coordinator Ministry in Economy Musdhalifah Machmud said, though RAN KSB was mandated to government’s institution through National Budget and Regional Budget, and the wide areas to cover activity/program, the government certainly welcomes if any fund supports from others. “Such as, from international development institutions, plantation companies, or philantrophy institution,” Musdhalifah said.

Director of Setara Jambi, Nurbaya Zulhakim said, RAN KSB implementation needs cooperation from many sectors because sustainable palm oil is comprehensively relating to many aspects, such as, economy, social, and environment. It needs supports and synergy from related government’s instances.

“Plantation agency (in many regions) will be difficult to execute and realize the goals in RAN KSB without the support from other instances,” she said.

Baya – her nick name, continued, the biggest challenge in RAN KSB implementation is the limited numbers of counselors which have knowledge about sustainable palm oil. There had been some unrelated communication with other instances or sides. It also needs to involve companies which commit to accelerate RAD KSB implementation.

Baya thought, by the supports from the government, companies, civil society organizations, koperasi unit desa, or planters’ associations which stably run, RAD KSB would be optimally running and the result can minimize the gap to solve complex issues in palm oil plantations. This, of course, needs fund from National Budget – Regional Budget or the donor. “It is hoped, sustainable palm oil development can be realized,” she said.

Setara Jambi as the civil society organization focuses to improve palm oil plantation governance in independent smallholder’s level to implement RAD KSB in Jambi namely in component 1, 2, 3, and 5. Setara Jambi joins the taskforce of RAD Jambi Province and District of Tebo.. (T2)
