Members of LTKL: Collaborate to Disaster Mitigation

InfoSAWIT, DEPOK – Disasters in Indonesia happened not because of climate change only but also for conventional economic activity that ignored environmental conservation. The impacts of natural disaster particularly the fire in the forest would cause losses up to Rp 269 million per hectare.

To prevent it, 9 (nine) districts as the members of Lingkar Temu Kabupaten Lestari (LTKL) commit to get more holistic disaster mitigation in spatial and ecosystem conservation – base. The regional governments, the privates, academy, civil society, young generations can involve to it. The multi-side collaboration could deliver disaster dealing sustainably to make sure that the people stay in welfare. The effective disaster dealing needs to adjust ecologic function in the regions and consider the local wisdoms.

Secretariat Chief of LTKL, Gita Syahrani told the prevention to minimize the loss from disaster cannot stand alone. “We need to implement collaboration principles which are not on paper only but see the same goal, have the fair role division, and functions of collaboration,” Gita said in the Environment Journalist Conference in Depok, West Java, Friday (20/01/2023).

One of LTKL members, District of Sigi has vision called, Sigi Hijau. The district commits to get sustainable development in disaster mitigation – base. Sigi does it by, the first, doing spatial arrangement to the people’s circumstance and spot permits based on the district spatial.

The second, doing critical area reformation by planting bamboo both in forest regions in social forestry program and outside forest regions by advantaging bamboo for biomass renewable energy for small, medium business, and realizing architectural landmark; the third, increasing disaster response preparedness, making people’s group to disaster care. The regulation of District of Sigi was published after liquefaction happened in 2018. This is the basic to every development in the district. It means, every development in the region is more environmental and social.

As the representative of District of Sigi, Head of Environment Agency, Mohamad Afit Lamakarate told, long before District Sigi was established, the villagers understand about the environment and they decided the regions where vast protected conservation should always exist.

“We choose to be sustainable and green district because our region is passed through by fault of Palu - Koro and has conservation. But on one hand, we want that the people in economic perspective could take their children to get education, food, and sustainably do it by proposing people’s economy,” he said.

Afit also mentioned, Sigi reinforced the spatial to map the earthquake potential, disaster prone – areas. Besides, Sigi also encouraged to publish policies that could mitigate disasters and in the same time, encouraged the people to have their own ability to be more independent to develop their economic potential.

The regional regulation is reinforced by establishing multi-side forum as the place to encourage the coordination, integration, synchronization, synergy, and cooperation among stakeholders in Sigi, by involving Yayasan Kompas Peduli Hutan (KOMIU) and (T2)
