Face Palm Oil Negative Campaigns and Discrimination, Indonesia – Malaysia Need Close Cooperation

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Field Chairman in Communication Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA), Tofan Mahdi told, for Indonesia’s palm oil production up to 50 million tons and Malaysia’s production up to 22 million tons, both countries are the master of vegetable oil in the globe.

“That is why Indonesia and Malaysia should be unified in facing every palm oil negative campaign and discrimination in vegetable oil trade in the globe,” he said in a TV talk-show.

Tofan thought, Indonesia and Malaysia as the vegetable oil producers still face the two negative issues from non-palm oil producers. “Many discrimination and negative campaign happen for the trade competition,” he emphasized.

That is why by having commitment, agreement, and cooperation, Indonesia, Malaysia and other producer countries in Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) can be the solution to face the issues.

Palm oil discrimination and negative campaigns should be the same notices for both countries to minimize vegetable oil competition in the global level.

Meanwhile Chairman of Asosiasi Petani Kelapa Sawit Indonesia (Apkasindo), Gulat Manurung said, the smallholders should always be involved in diplomacy and negotiation to fight for trade discrimination from many developed countries. “Because 42% of palm oil plantations belong to the smallholders. They are the future of this industry in Indonesia,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Tuesday (10/1/2023). (T2)
