The Establishment of Pusat Studi Sawit IPB: Strengthen Palm Oil Industries

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The economy showed up resilience with the impressive progress up to 5,44% (year on year/yoy) in the second quarter of 2022 in national scale. The good progress of economy was supported by the increasing exports up to 9,74% (yoy) within palm oil exports as the mainstay from Indonesia.

Besides supporting the export values in the country, palm oil industries contributed to conquer poverty and create employment significantly. The government keeps doing to urge the industries as strategic sector and of course, it needs support and participation from every level of the society.

“I hope, there would be action of care that takes every one of use to be proud, working together to realize palm oil agro-industry which is powerful from the upstream to downstream sectors, and dare face many challenges and obstacles,” Coordinator Minister in Economy, Airlangga Hartarto said in his vitual keynote speech in the launching of book review “Sawit Untuk Negeri” and the inauguration of Pusat Studi Sawit, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University, Friday (9/09).

One participation from the people is by establishing Pusat Studi Sawit IPB University to monitor palm oil cultivation in many aspects sustainable. As the biggest palm oil producer in the world, Indonesia has available research centers and could be counted on to guarantee sustainability from the mainstay commodity, palm oil. The establishment of Pusat Studi Sawit should be also in other universities to get applicable policy recommendations that relates to optimize palm oil development.

Pusat Studi Sawit should be able to deliver kinds of palm oil study in social, economic, and environmental aspects, not only in the upstream but also in downstream sectors which means, the added value from palm oil could be for other sectors to enjoy,” Airlangga said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.

Besides Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) delivered participation by researching about palm oil use for biodiesel. Many other universities should do the same to support the government to maintain palm oil industrial operation as the mainstay commodity which guarantees the superiority to food and energy security.

Airlangga also did appreciate and support the launching of “Sawit Untuk Negeri” as the participation and encouragement from related sides to develop palm oil by the government. (T2)
