Airlangga: Palm Oil Industries Should be Sustainable and for the People’s Welfare

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The agricultural sectors as one significant contributor to develop the economy nationally have something to do with the support of plantation sub sector, namely palm oil. Palm oil industries are proven to hire many workers, developing the villages, and significantly minimize the poverty.

Besides Indonesia is the biggest palm oil producer in the world that delivered 54% of market share. Palm oil exports from Indonesia reached more than 125 countries for their food, energy, and other derivative industries.

“We have to encourage the high export potential as same as the expensive palm oil to welfare the people,” Coordinator Minister in Economy, Airlangga Hartarto said when delivering his keynote speech in online Borneo Forum the 5th in 2022 with the theme “Menuju Industri Sawit Borneo Lebih Berkelanjutan” conducted by Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA), Wednesday (24/08).

To get more expensive additional values, the government keeps developing palm oil downstream companies in order not to concentrate in the materials only but also to the end products.

The government decided many comprehensive policies and encouraged to get multi-side cooperation so that palm oil sectors cold be developing by noticing the sustainability for the environment. The policies started from Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification, Rencana Aksi Nasional Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan (RAN-KSB) 2019 - 2024, to Program Strategis Nasional about Smallholders Replanting Program (SRP).

“Palm oil plantations that highly contribute to the economy should be the same with the sustainability for the environment and the people to get the sustainable development,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (24/8/2022). (T2)
