BPOM Supervised the Standards of Red Palm Oil Quality

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) is always in coordination with Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) to get food safety and quality standards of red palm oil in – palm oil based.

Head of BPOM, Penny K. Lukito visited the headquarter of PPKS in Medan North Sumatera. “BPOM fully supports the acceleration of this program to implement and supervise red palm oil factory to be as standard as good manufacturing practice,” Penny said in the press release, Sunday (21/8/2022).

She also emphasized the supervision process to get distribution permit is free of charge. Then PPKS and BPOM would always be in coordination to realize red palm oil factory and the product itself should be safely consumed by the people.

For information red palm oil has many advantages, such as, it is simply produced, cheap, the installation could be developed in remote areas and the distribution and logistics would be much cheaper.

Director of Production and Development, Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III (Persero), Mahmudi said, the innovation product could be developed by micro, small, and medium businesses (MSMB) or cooperation. “And it is potential to escalate the additional values and smallholders’ welfare,” he said.

The relatively simple production but not reducing the quality standard and food safety would enable the smallholders or cooperation or MSMB to implement it.

The material – crude palm oil (CPO) which is abundant in Indonesia and derived from superior seeds (from PPKS) would guarantee the production, natural nutrition of the product without any additional or addictive substances and materials.

Head of PPKS, M. Edwin S. Lubis said, red palm oil could be potentially used as functional food, such as, frying foods, salad dressing, margarine and shortening materials.

The nutrients make it as one food material to anti-stunting. “The oleat-acid and linoleate acid in it would function to develop children’s brain, their transportation, and metabolism,” Lubis said.

PPKS actively and intensively coordinates with BPOM to adjust the factory layout and production process. PPKS substituted the layout based on what BPOM recommended to qualify CPPOB (Cara Produksi Pangan Olahan yang Baik). (T2)
