InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – To escalate plantation productivity PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII (PTPN VIII) planned to conversed rubber plantations about 15.000 hectares (ha) to be palm oil. The plan was decided in the Rencana Jangka Panjang Perusahaan (RJPP) PTPN VIII in 2021-2026.

SEVP Operasional PTPN VIII Wispramono Budiman said, rubber plantations in Indonesia in the past one decade were not delivering profits. The plantation productivity is stuck by the limited field workers.

For many industries operate in satellite city, the people’s custom changes where they used to work in plantations to be interesting in working in factories.

Wispramono Budiman also mentioned, the conversion of rubber to be palm oil plantations would be in phase based on the feasibility study recommendation that PT Riset Perkebunan Nusantara (RPN) would conduct.

“The first phase would be about to converse 5.000 hectares of rubber plantations to be palm oil,” Wispramono said, as in the official statement, Friday (19/8/2022).

In general, the external factors had something to do with rubber, such as, the decreasing selling price, and the decreasing natural rubber production. The wet climate also had something to do with the production and pest disease in rubber commodity.

Head of Palm Oil and Rubber Department, PTPN VIII, Budhi Herdiyana Tresnadi also mentioned, it has to get down-sizing strategy in rubber plantation for the selling price does not get better and the productivity gets decreasing. “It has to be done to maintain the existence of the corporate namely in the operational finance,” he said.
