Sorolangun Suggested Independent Smallholders Implement Sustainable Palm Oil Practices

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Head of Plantation and Agriculture Agency District of Sorolangun, Jambi Province, Dedi Hendri said, his side does realize that in District of Sorolangun there are about 21 thousand independent smallholders. They are encouraged to get the permit conditions needed. In addition, they have to get Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificate. That is why with the support of Yayasan Setara Jambi and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), we hope that they would be able to get the ISPO and RSPO certificate process.

“Until now there are few independent smallholders that got sustainable palm oil certificates in this region but the will to develop sustainable palm oil is high enough. Some rubber plantations have been substituted and planted to be palm oil,” he said in ‘Kesepakatan Bersama: Percepatan Implementasi Sertifikasi Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan in Jambi’, where InfoSAWIT attended in the midst of May 2022.

He thought, the people’s high will to cultivate sustainable palm oil plantations and the development from Yayasan Setara, of course, would help them to realize everything in District of Sorolangon. “In addition, our Regional Expenditure is limited still,” he said. (T2)
