InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – After a few months being instructed by President Joko Widodo to improve palm oil industries nationally, Coordinator Minister in Investment and Maritime, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan told some findings.
He said, palm oil industries in Indonesia have lots of problems to be solved. “When President Joko Widodo instructed me to deal with palm oil, I did it. We knew that there are lots of issues in palm oil industries,” Pandjaitan said from the YouTube of Coordinator Ministry in Investment and Maritime, Friday (19/8/2022).
But in big scale, one most general issue is that the status of the plantation. He told, there are millions of hectares of palm oil plantations do not have certificates or other legal aspects needed.
From the findings, there are 4 million hectares of 16,3 million hectares have no master. “You could imagine, if 4 million hectares could be saved, we could potentially get Rp 100 billion per year,” he said.
That is why digitalization is one solution to solve palm oil plantation problems. This could be minimizing corruption which is always attached with palm oil management. “If everything is in digital, the corruption could be decreasing. There would be lots of impacts and the technology would always run,” Pandjaitan said. (T2)
