InfoSAWIT, MAMUJU – To keep strengthening independent smallholders’ institution in the landscape base, Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) keeps consolidating and this time, the coordinators officially inaugurated the coordinators of SPKS in West Sulawesi Province precisely in Districts of Mamuju, Mamuju Tengah, and Pasangkayu in 2022 – 2026.
General Secretary of SPKS, Mansuetus Darto officially inaugurated them on 9 August 2022 at Hotel Maleo Mamuju. There were series of activity in the process, such as, workshop of fresh fruit bunch (FFB) governance for the smallholders in West Sulawesi. The inauguration was also attended by Chairman of West Sulawesi Legislators, Head of Plantation Agency West Sulawesi, SPOS Indonesia, Yayasan Kehati and smallholders’ representatives from the three districts.
Mansuetus Darto in his speech told, SPKS now exists in West Sulawesi and should be able to play its roles to support, cooperate with other parties to develop sustainable palm oil plantations in smallholders’ level.
He also mentioned, SPKS should be actively playing the roles from the lowest, medium to the highest level. In the lowest level, SPKS should develop smallholders’ groups, develop cooperation, empower smallholders’ human resources by delivering trainings in the fields and villages, and should fairly facilitate partnership between cooperation and companies.
“In the medium level, SPKS should encourage the policy in the regional level which delivers profits and obey the smallholders’ rights and could be part of fresh fruit bunch (FFB) team to decide FFB price in the province level. In the high level, SPKS should conduct advocacy to every policy which does not have partisanship to the smallholders,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Sunday (14/8/2022).
Head of Plantation Agency Wes Sulawesi Province, Syamsul Maarif did welcome the existence of SPKS in the province and hoped to be partner to develop independent smallholders to solve every issue they face in the province.
Syamsul Maarif also mentioned, West Sulawesi has arranged Rencana Aksi Daerah (RAD) Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan according to the Governor’s Regulation Number 188 / 2020, and the target is that by RAD, the smallholders’ governance could be improve to get them more welfare and more sustainable.
“We hope, SPKS and other smallholders’ associations could support the government to multiply smallholders’ institutions and escalate their human resources by conducting trainings,” Maarif said. (T2)
