Ministry of Industry: Coordination is the Key to Solve Palm Oil Downstream – Upstream Development

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Palm oil processing industries hired direct workers up to more than 5,2 million men and became the sources of living for about 20 million men. According to Ministry of Industry in 2021, palm oil exports reached 40,31 million tons within US$ 35,79 billion, or increased 56,63% from 2020 exports. Palm oil sectors from the upstream to downstream cover much.

Ministry of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said, it needs coordination among the related ministry, institution, and stakeholders to arrange development policy.

“Coordination is the successful key to develop integrated and comprehensive palm oil sector ,” he said in Jakarta, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (18/7/2022).

Ministry of Industry keeps triggering downstream industries to produce many qualified, competitive downstream products. This needs the supports of materials, technology use, innovation advantages so that the consumers accept our downstream products globally.

“In 2011, there were only 54 downstream products we produced. But now they have been 168 downstream products in this country, it means, for about 11 years, the products increased triples,” he said.

The good operational in the mills would influence the plantations which are integrate from the upstream to downstream and it is hoped they could be normally operating again.

According to the Regulation Number 39 / 2014, crude palm oil (CPO) extraction mills and KBLI 10431 (CPO mills) are developed by Ministry of Agriculture which is accommodated by publishing Plantation Business which is integrate with Processing Permit. (T2)
