CPOPC Urged UN about GFP-SPO

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) urged United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) to admit global framework of principles for sustainable palm oil (GFP-SPO).

GFP-SPO is about to be the general guidelines for many certifications in sustainable palm oil production which refers to sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Minister of Commodity and Plantation Malaysia, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said, GFP-SPO can be applied as the same reference in sustainability scheme namely in palm oil production which one of the schemes could refer to UN SDGs as the basic.

She thought, though it is developed by palm oil perspective to measure palm oil contribution in SDGs, GFP – SPO can be applied as the sustainability reference by other vegetable oils, such as, soybean, canola, sunflower, and others.

“CPOPC hoped, GFP-SPO can be globally a consideration as the foundation to establish sustainability (measurement) in vegetable oil platform,” she said in a webinar of United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC) High Level Political Forum (HLPF), Monday (11/7/2022).

Executive Director of CPOPC, Rizal Affandi Lukman mentioned, the main responsibility is about to make sure that every palm oil producer, consumer, and other stakeholder really understand the social economy impacts from sustainable palm oil sectors toward sustainability and people’s empowerment.

“CPOPC is always ready to be involved in realizing the sustainable development commitment in the world,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Tuesday (12/7/2022). (T5)
