KGSI: Keeps Developing Anti-Ganorderm Palm Oil Seeds

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Palm oil researchers keep trying to escalate palm oil seed endurance to face many diseases, such as, ganoderma which becomes the latent in palm oil plantation nationally.

Konsorsium Genom Sawit Indonesia (KGSI) that consists of five palm oil companies, such as, PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk., PT Binasawit Makmur (PT Sampoerna Agro Tbk),  Panca Surya Garden (PT Surya Dumai), PT London Sumatra Indonesia Tbk., and Timbang Deli Indonesia was established to prevent ganoderm diseases by producing anti-ganoderm palm oil seeds.

The researchers from the five companies on 28 - 29 June 2022 gathered in Bah Lias Research Station, Bandar, District of Simalungun, North Sumatera Province to cooperate in research field.

Director of PT Sampoerna Agro Tbk., Dwi Asmono said, KGSI is established to cooperate, develop, and implement bio-technology in palm oil sectors.

“In the first phase in 2022-2024, it would focus on Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS) to identify locus of associated genetic that is endurable to Ganoderma,” he said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from his personal facebook.

He also mentioned, it would be the consortium board for KGSI. He is proud of the researchers which are confident, progressive to be competitive in palm oil industries in Indonesia from the technology perspective. “They have spirit to collaborate though they are still in competition,” Dwi Asmono said.
