InfoSAWIT, YOGYAKARTA - Ministry of Agriculture consistently encouraged the planters (smallholders) to immediately execute smallholders replanting program (SRP) with many instances to escalate the production and plantation productivity.
In 2020, SRP targeted to cover 180.000 hectares (ha). Many should support the targets, monitoring SRP implementation, and notice the leads of Steering Committee of Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA). It needs adjustment based on the regulations about SRP.
“Regulation of Minister of Agriculture (RMA) Number 3 / 2022, there are basic changes but they are the same at the principles. The proposal to implement SRP was from agencies in districts and cities, RMA Number 3 / 2022 SRP proposal could be from partnership,” Director of Yearly Plantation and Freshness, General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Hendratmojo Bagus Hudoro said in his speech in a coordination meeting about palm oil plantations with the smallholders in 2022, Yogyakarta in June 2022.
He also told in the regulation namely about partnership, the smallholders’ institutions could cooperate with plantation companies, could propose (to implement SRP) to PFMA directly. Then PFMA would call surveyor to verify the proposals.
It is not easy to encourage SRP implementation with the target 180 thousand hectares per year. Of course, Bagus continued, there are lots of challenges, such as, the smallholders’ plantations could be in forest regions, their plantation certificates were taken in pawn by the banks, and they could be reluctant to get SRP.
“RMA Number 3 / 2022 would ease them to get SRP access. The smallholders can propose to the agencies in the districts/cities and PFMA directly,” he said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official Instagram of General Directorate of Plantation Instagram.
One important thing to know, he continued, everybody is responsible to the smallholders’ welfare. That is why, let us together, be in synergy to realize it by many strategic ways. (T2)
